Officially ALARAmeet Tasmania will be held September 13-14th 2008, although for those who can take the time, it stretches from 12th -15th. It will be held in Ulverstone which is situated at the mouth of the Leven River and is 125 km north west of Launceston and 19 km west of Devonport (approximately a 15 min drive).

Tasmania at this time of year (September/October) is beautiful. The tulips and freesias will be in flower with maybe some late daffodils and the plum and nectarine trees should be in flower. The countryside around Ulverstone consists of rolling hills with fertile reddish brown soil with green seedlings coming up in rows interspersed with green pastures and is set off with Mt Roland (near Sheffield) in the background from all different view points.

In Ulverstone the temperature can reach mild temperatures of 18-20° C but we do average around 10 days rain during the month of September, so bring some light rain gear in case of wet weather.

If you are planning to tour before or after ALARAmeet, while the weather is quite mild around the coastal areas during spring, anyone thinking of heading towards the Highlands (including Cradle Mountain) or the southern part of the state, should bear in mind that the weather can go very quickly from one extreme to the other. Clothing there needs to be very warm with woolly hats and gloves.
