The first National Get-Together of ALARA members was held in Mildura in September 1984, organised by Marilyn VK3DMS, assisted by Marlene VK2KFQ and their respective OMs Geoff and Ron.

Of course all the OMs who attended, enjoyed themselves as much as the ladies. It was decided to arrange a tenth birthday meeting for the following year and from then on have a national get-together every three to five years.

In September 1987 the second National Get-together was held in Adelaide organised by Meg VK5YG (then VK5AOV).

Approximately forty people attended with some travelling great distances. One couple came from New Zealand. At this get-together the name, ALARAmeet, was born.
